Sparking Intellectual Curiosity

At Clarendon Tutors, we believe that learning something new, whatever your age, opens new possibilities, promoting emotional and mental wellbeing.

Connect with our young, fun and intelligent tutors in-person, to inspire your love of learning, with our Clarendon Club or STRETCH programmes.

The Clarendon Club

Intellectual exploration in a group, or 1-2-1 setting. Learn about a specific interest in depth e.g. Spanish, Italian, Mandarin, art history, music, writing, politics etc. with our
tutors in-person, from the comfort of your home.

We have 400 tutors, covering all subjects, so whatever your ‘intellectual curiosity’, we will find the perfect match.

STRETCH™

A unique programme Clarendon designed with neuroscience specialists from UCL (with special thanks to Anna Van Loon). Interactive brain-games that ‘stretch’ the 6 parts of the brain to promote emotional & mental wellbeing, and brain longevity.

During weekly, in-person sessions at home, our tutors cover diverse topics like sign language, drawing, braille, poetry, listening (to the smallest detail), music, movement, and more; with the special ingredients of intergenerational connection and laughter. These activities have been carefully selected to stimulate the parts of your brain that would not be used in everyday life – to promote brain longevity.

Case Study

Anne joins the group

Our tutor, Will, a BBC Three composer, was entertaining a group, using their voices and his instruments to recreate Mozart’s 5th Symphony.

They were having a blast. So much so that Anne stuck her head around the corner. Anne usually never leaves her room, she is afraid of socialising. The laughter and music hooked her, she used to be a music teacher.

Now Anne is a regular member of the group – the life and soul of the party. Clarendon sparks intellectual curiosity.

Case Study

Hugo connects with his past

Our tutor, Phoebe, a trained psychologist, was playing STRETCH (our programme designed with neuroscience specialists from UCL to promote brain longevity) with Hugo.

Giggling ensued as they tried clumsily to sign language ‘my name is’. Phoebe held up a picture of Hugo’s wife, who he had long forgotten. He signed ‘my name is’ and shouted ‘Heather’, with pure joy.

Hugo remembered her name for the first time in months. Clarendon sparks intellectual curiosity.

Meet Our Tutors

Testimonials

My son now lives in France with his wife, so I wanted to surprise him by speaking French when I next came to visit. Now I am finally putting French sentences together for the first time in my life.

(Lenny, 81)

My father, a former surgeon now facing dementia, found joy and connection through Clarendon with Alice, a trainee medic. Together, they enjoy STRETCH dementia games and discuss medicine, keeping my dad connected to his lifelong craft.

(Charlotte, 51)

My grandson is dyslexic and finds history very hard. I therefore decided to learn history so that I can help him after school. I love reconnecting with the things I learnt at school and thought I had long forgotten.

(Perry, 68)

Our residents with dementia have found a meaningful connection with the Clarendon STRETCH program. Anna, with her youth and enthusiasm, not only engages our residents in fun activities but also stimulates their minds with a compassionate touch.
