UCAS clearance and A level results

Aug 16, 2023 | A-Levels, News, UCAS & Universities

We hope those of you with children awaiting their A level results have either a bottle of champagne or a bottle of whisky at the ready. In all seriousness, we hope that all of our A level students get the results that their hard work deserves.

We hope this doesn’t affect Clarendon students, but top grades awarded by exam boards are being touted to fall for the first time since the pandemic, with nearly 100,000 fewer A* / A grades.

There are two options open to you should your child not get the A level results that their prospective course required:

UCAS clearing

UCAS clearing currently has 5,000 course slots available at Russell Group universities. Clare Marchant, head of UCAS, has warned students to act fast to grab these places, as falling grades and more applications means competition is fierce. Make sure your child opens up their results first thing and, if they are nervous about their results, it may be worth having a look at Clearing today, to see what is available at their top university choice.

Gap year

Your child can do a gap year, which can be especially productive if they manage to secure work experience to bolster their CVs, and retake the A levels that held them back, before applying next year.

If you need any advice at all, then don’t hesitate to get in touch.
