If your child was beavering away during the Christmas holidays, hoping to ace their mocks, then this week or next they will probably become over-excited or overly despondent at their mock results. We would advise not getting too up or down at mock results. However, we do think that using the mocks to maximise one’s chances in the summer exams is absolutely vital. We’re going to share our top tips below on how to most effectively use the mocks to ace the summer exams.
- Get teachers’ feedback. Either you or your child should ask the teachers where improvements can or must be made. Your child’s teachers will have the best idea on where the most marks can be made up between now and the summer.
- Get hold of the mock papers. So often, a child will sit a mock, get a result and then never see the paper again. This is a calamitous waste. Get hold of the paper and either review it with them, or get their tutor to review it with them.
- Organise and prioritise. Some students will be aiming for straight 9s, in which case, the worst results at mocks should be the subjects that are prioritised. For some students, it will be their A level subjects that need to be prioritised. For some students, a pass will be a huge success. Prioritise subjects and even topics within those subjects to focus on first.
- Plan ahead for half term and Easter. It is hard to get much revision in during term time, so start planning ahead for the half-term break and Easter holidays.
- Ask for help. If your child has had any disasters, don’t panic. Get in touch with us and we can find the perfect tutor who will be able to turn those fortunes around.
