Easter is one month away, which means there can be only one question on everyone’s minds:
How much butter is too much butter to put on a hot cross bun?
No, you’re quite right. That is ridiculous. No amount of butter is too much butter for that happy vessel, the hot cross bun.
But perhaps the question you thought I might pose was this:
How can I make sure my child makes the most of the Easter holidays in the run up to exam season?
This question is more multi-faceted, but we hope to offer similar levels of comfort to the previous question with our breakdown.
1. Plan ahead
This means creating revision timetables in advance, so that your child has a structure for the holidays. It’s no good simply saying “I’m going to revise for 8 hours”. Good students plan every day subject by subject, great students plan every day topic by topic, or exam by exam. Also, get in touch with Clarendon right away because the best A level, IB and GCSE tutors book up in this busy period.
2. Timed exam papers between tutorials
In order to maximise the impact of any tuition your child might be having, make sure they are completing whole past papers under timed conditions. Not only will this stress test their knowledge and technique under pressure, it will make the tuition itself more targeted.
3. Screen free zones
Ban their mobile phone from the room they work in. Whenever they enter that room, their phone goes in a box. Nothing diminishes focus like the presence of a smart phone.
4. Organise the content of the syllabus
Break down the syllabus topic by topic and colour code it with a traffic light system: red – knowledge not yet secure – urgent work needed; yellow – knowledge secure, but still needs practice under timed conditions – more work needed; green – knowledge and technique secure under timed conditions. Ask Clarendon for help with this.
5. Rest time needed
This means good sleep habits, regular exercise and screen free relaxation.
