Exam timetables finalised for summer 2024

Feb 23, 2024

The exam timetables for Summer 2024 are all finalised and, indeed, some of you may have seen your dear child or student holding their timetables with shaking hands (if they haven’t had any Clarendon support; they’d be holding their timetables with steady, determined hands with our support).

Here are a few takeaways from the finalised timetables:

GCSE

GCSEs arrive sooner than you think. Most students will be in their 3rd or 4th week of term before the written exams begin. Make sure your child / student is organised before the Easter Holidays begin.

As ever, listening and speaking in languages kicks us off. This will vary from school to school, but all schools have a window from 1st March to 30th April to get these done.

Most exam boards begin the summer exam timetable in earnest the week beginning 6th of May.

Spare a thought for those sitting Physics with Edexcel (paper 2 is on Friday 14th June) or Design Technology with OCR (Tuesday 18th June), as these are the latest finishes this year.

Key dates

Edexcel Maths 1 – 16th May
Edexcel Maths 2 – 3rd June
Edexcel English Lit Poetry and Modern Prose – 13th May
Edexcel English Lit Drama and Heritage Text – 20th May
CIE English Literature Poetry and Prose – 13th May
CIE English Literature Drama and Unseen – 15th May
CIE English Language – 13th May, Edexcel English Literature
OCR English Lit Modern and Literary Heritage texts – 13th May
OCR English Lit Poetry and Shakespeare – 20th May
AQA English Lit Shakespeare and 19th Century novel – 13th May
AQA English Lit Modern texts and Poetry – 20th May

A Level

A levels tend are more spread out, running for six weeks.

Most exam boards (Edexcel, OCR, AQA, Eduqas) start later – the week commencing 13th May – and end later – the week commencing 24th June.

If your child or student is sitting international A levels with Cambridge, these start the week commencing 6th May.

A levels comprise multiple papers (2 or 3) per subject. These tend to be separated by a week, whilst the shortest time between papers this year is 5 days (AQA Psychology papers 1 and 2, Edexcel Economics papers 1 and 2).

IB

Once more, the Easter holidays are vital for IB, as the exams begin a couple of weeks into the summer term.
The IB schedule is much shorter, only running for 4 weeks.

It begins on the 24th April with English Paper 1 and ends on the 17th May with French Paper 2.

We’re not sponsored by them, but we have been impressed with Adapt Revision to help your child schedule their exams and revision.

As ever, any help with preparation of any kind, do get in touch.
